As an SBO, you are too important to your enterprise to risk a work-life imbalance. Of course, there’s never been a successful small business owner that didn’t have to hammer away through grueling hours and an exhausting pace. It’s called blood, sweat and tears for a reason. But without you operating in a sustainable manner, the result could be no business at all.
So, it is vital you find a way to balance building a thriving business with nurturing a fulfilling personal life. For the hard-headed amongst us, think of “time off” as a business investment. When you recharge, you return with fresh perspectives and renewed energy – making for better decision-making and leadership.
At the top of your list should be quality time with your loved ones. These vital moments are important to your relationships, but they probably also help remind you why you started your business journey.
If you are pre-family and away from relatives, try to build a support network of friends – ideally people that have nothing to do with your business – and be sure to engage actively on a regular basis. As with family time, it is important to be present in these moments and shift your business engine into neutral.
Work-life balance isn't about perfect equilibrium – it's about creating a rhythm and structure to let both business and personal life flow in harmony.
An SBO Coach is another good way to get support by reducing some of the work burden to allow more lifetime activity.
