SBOs can get time on their side.

Time is every SBO's most precious resource – and you've got exactly the same 24 hours each day as do the CEOs of the world’s largest companies.  So, the old saying “if only there were more hours in the day” needs to be applied as squeezing more efficiency out of the hours you do have.

Time simply flies by when you are wearing many hats – as any small business owner must do.  You should embrace the variety, but try to limit jumping from track to track to track.  You can work smarter by grouping similar tasks into bigger blocks of time on specific days, all sales and marketing related tasks on Monday and Thursday, for example.  Anything related to finance is scheduled for Wednesday and Friday, as another example.

There will always be “emergencies” that cannot wait, but the “scheduled blocks” approach reduces the mental energy lost in switching up from one task to another – especially when one task is creative and another is analytical.  Whenever you are moving from task to task, be sure to get a small break before starting the next task.  Studies show increased productivity with even a five-to-ten-minute break for mental recharge.

Another key component of time management is delegating, which is one of the biggest growth hurdles for an SBO.  Learning to let go and trust your team can start with small steps.  Choose just one task to hand off this week.  Be crystal clear on the expected result and not so much in details of how to do it.  You may be surprised that fresh perspectives may find a more efficient way to achieve the desired outcome, even if it took a different route to get there.

Another great time saver is relying on the experience and wisdom of an SBO coach at your side on your business journey.
